SRTU River Clean Up Report

SRTU and Gateway Streetscapes teamed up to clean the Smith from Philpott dam to Townes Creek on July 20th. We also leaned Riverbrook Road which goes from Philpott road to the below dam recreation area. We had about 20 members and guests helping in one way or another. We collected about 20 bags of trash, many tires, an old oil drum, sign posts, a deck umbrella and a newspaper lock box. Lots of treasures! Afterwards, we had a great cookout lunch. Some of the gang got in some fishing downstream as they jumped ahead of the noon generation. A big thanks to Lizz Stanley of Gateway for the support, bags and arranging the trash pick up. Our guests, many of whom drove 4+ hours from NC, are to be congratulated for their efforts and love of the river. See you next year!

Smith River Clean Up Details

See everyone at the river!

Smith River Trout Unlimited (SRTU) will conduct a river clean up from the base of Philpott Dam, downstream to Town Creek on Saturday, July 20, 2013. Volunteers should assemble at the base of Philpott Dam on the Franklin County side which is accessed off Riverbrook Road (Hwy 727) at 8:30 am for work assignments and safety briefing. Bring your waders if you plan to get in the water. There are also assignments for non-waders because we will be cleaning Riverbrook Road which parallels the river. A cookout and opportunity to fish with a SRTU member will follow the clean up which is expected to over by 12:00 noon. Individuals and like minded environmental groups are urged to participate.
